CANCELLATION OF OUR CRUISES
As you already know, there is a pandemic caused by a novel corona virus (SARS-CoV-2) which leads to a disease now known as COVID-19. There have been particular issues around cruise ships, and it is clear that the crowding and other elements of this environment acts as a focus for spread of this virus. It is also clear that people with long term medical problems (including dialysis patients) are at particular risk from this virus.
Currently all cruise ships are inactive, and there is no timeline on when cruises will restart. This is also a time when dialysis nurses and nephrologists, like most hospital staff, are likely to be required in their “home base”.
Putting a dialysis cruise into place require many months of planning. Given the present stage of the COVID-19 crisis and the state of the cruise industry more generally, we have decided to cancel ALL planned cruises for 2020.
The situation around the COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly changing. There is clearly some uncertainty over the short and medium term future of cruise travel. Even if the cruise industry has restarted travel on cruise ships at that stage, it will not be feasible to arrange a cruise on that date.
Longer term decisions will be based on whether it is possible to conduct a “dialysis cruise” in a safe manner.
All members will be kept up to date as to future trips DELA will be offering.
